Picnic Day at Brackenridge Park and Zoo Train

Our little ones love having a picnic lunch  when the weather is not too hot. Our favorite park is close to Downtown San Antonio on Broadway Street called Brackenridge Park. The older child always  has  a lot of fun  packing  things we take to the picnic such as paper plates, utensils, water, snacks, and napkins. He never forgets to pack Coke Zero for daddy.

Our lunch is always simple Thai style food such as sticky rice, grilled pork, and Pad Thai.

Playground is a must for any picnic day. We like to start with playing at the playground first to stimulate our appetite so we will enjoy the food much more.

After having lunch, we take the zoo train. The train tickets for children above 3 and adults are $5. You can purchase tickets at the train Depot Shop located next to the Train Depot Café.

The zoo train passed through Brackenridge Park and Alamo city golf course. We had a nice breeze in January which makes the ride more enjoyable.   The train stopped at 2 attractions, the Witte Museum and DoSeum.

Brackenridge Park has a beautiful lake, waterfalls, walking trails, picnic area, biking, and hiking. It’s close to several attractions such as the Japanese Tea Garden, San Antonio Zoo, Botanical Gardens, and the Witte Museum. If you are a golfer, you can also golf at Alamo city golf course close to the park.

Plan your visit upfront by downloading  the  park map and get more information on the park website.
